Yorutouge transports you into a vibrant, psychedelic Vocaloid rave world within the realm of VRChat. Brought to life by VR_SMEJ and using the captivating work of Vocaloid artist and producer Kikuo, this experience offers an exhilarating 20-minute rave in a public VRChat setting. The creators intended for it to be a sort of “manic stopping point”—a place for people to escape whenever they feel weighed down or lost in a fog, as explained by the team.
I had the opportunity to dive into this unique experience during the NewImages Festival 2025, specifically through the XR Market segment. Part of the XR Competition, Yorutouge was among 14 other immersive projects. Accompanied by four other participants, I began the journey inside a whimsical cave. Quickly, it transforms into a surreal audio-visual spectacle, transporting you onto a dance floor as you vibe to five electrifying songs, with Kikuo brilliantly taking on the role of DJ.
The aspect I found most compelling was how the room is flooded with mesmerizing visual effects. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill disco—it’s a full-blown sensory adventure. However, it’s important to note that those prone to epilepsy should steer clear. The carefully curated music selection set the right mood, complementing a series of intricately designed environments that kept me on my toes, always eager to see what unexpected element would pop up next.
