It seems that Warner Bros has decided to scrap an upcoming expansion for Hogwarts Legacy, a move that might surprise many fans. According to Bloomberg, this expansion was supposed to roll out alongside a Definitive Edition of the beloved Harry Potter action RPG, promising fresh storylines and enhancements.
The decision to cancel reportedly stemmed from Warner Bros’ assessment that the content wasn’t substantial enough to justify the pricing they had in mind. The expansion was under the care of the original game developer, Avalanche Software, in partnership with Rocksteady. Interestingly, Avalanche is also rumored to be working on a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy.
As for Rocksteady, the studio recently experienced layoffs following their decision to cease support for the 2024 title, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
Last year, Warner Bros faced some tough challenges; they openly acknowledged that their gaming division wasn’t performing as expected. In that same period, the company made the tough call to write off $200 million related to Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. On top of that, they’ve closed down three of their studios, including the legendary Monolith Productions. To add to the company’s shake-ups, their long-standing leader, David Haddad, announced his exit not long ago.
