Valve has added the Steam Deck OLED to its Certified Refurbished offerings, giving gamers a chance to grab this upgraded model at a significant discount. By choosing a refurbished OLED version, you’re saving about 20% compared to purchasing a brand-new one directly from Valve.
The refurbished lineup includes both the 1TB and the 512GB Steam Deck OLED models. Priced at $519 for the 1TB version and $439 for the 512GB, these deals stack up impressively against the new purchase prices of $649 and $549, respectively. That translates into savings of $120 on the 1TB model and $110 on the 512GB version. Interestingly, the resell price of the 1TB OLED is actually $30 less than buying a brand-new 512GB OLED model.
For those looking at other options, the only brand-new Steam Deck currently cheaper than the refurbished OLED units is the older 256GB LCD model at $399. Valve’s site lists refurbished versions of the LCD model, covering the 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB variants, but they’re all out of stock. Moreover, you can’t get a new 512GB or 64GB LCD model anymore.
It’s important not to underestimate the strides made with the Steam Deck OLED. This isn’t just a shift to an OLED screen; it includes enhancements like a bump up to a 90Hz refresh rate, a 7.4-inch display with HDR capabilities, 400 nits brightness standard, and a peak of 1000 nits when HDR is engaged. Compared to the previous LCD model, which offered a 7-inch display at 60Hz without HDR and maxed out at 400 nits, the improvements are notable.
Underneath the exterior, the Steam Deck OLED sees further upgrades: a larger battery moving from 40Whr to 50Whr. Valve suggests this can deliver power for anywhere from 3 to 12 hours, subject to gaming demands, while the older LCD version offered 2 to 8 hours. Also, the RAM steps up from 5500MT/s LPDDR5 to a faster 6400 MT/s LPDDR5. If that wasn’t enough, the AMD APU now benefits from a tighter 6nm process, down from 7nm.
These refurbished OLED Steam Decks are available in select regions, like Canada, the EU, the UK, and the US, and they all come with a one-year warranty. Depending on where you live, you might even get more than that.
