The Unova Tour event in Pokémon Go just got a whole lot more exciting, thanks to the addition of a couple of legendary headliners.
It’s been officially announced that “White Kyurem” and “Black Kyurem,” the prominent Pokémon from Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, will make their debut in Pokémon Go. These Ice/Dragon-type legendaries will first appear during live events in Los Angeles and New Taipei City from February 21 to 23, with a global rollout scheduled for March 1 and 2.
Engage in challenging raid battles to encounter Black and White Kyurem, where you’ll need to overcome the second-highest difficulty level to gather “Volt Fusion Energy” for Black Kyurem or “Blaze Fusion Energy” for White Kyurem—a gameplay mechanic reminiscent of last summer’s Pokémon Go Fest. To create these formidable Pokémon, you’ll require a Kyurem along with either Zekrom or Reshiram. The Kyurem’s stats and shiny status, if applicable, will carry over in the fusion. And if your Kyurem happens to know the move Glaciate, fusing it with Zekrom results in Black Kyurem wielding “Freeze Shock,” while fusing with Reshiram grants it “Ice Burn.” (We’re waiting for confirmation from Niantic about whether any Kyurem caught during the event will automatically know Glaciate to ease fusions.) While the energy for these evolutions will initially be available at the in-person gatherings, trainers elsewhere can join remote raids during the weekend—up to five times daily. However, only local players will receive the fusion energy.
As a cool bonus, the legendaries you capture might also sport special backgrounds on their status screens! If you nab a Reshiram, look for a Pokémon Black-themed backdrop, while Zekrom will flaunt a Pokémon White theme. Kyurem can display either background, and should you fuse Pokémon with differing backgrounds—say, a Zekrom with a Black-themed Kyurem—you’ll unlock an exclusive third background.
This addition is set to make the Unova Tour event a memorable adventure for trainers worldwide!
