It’s been more than ten years since the original captivated audiences, but Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has made its entrance with remarkable fidelity to its cult-classic predecessor. Now, just in time for Black Friday, you can snag physical copies for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X at their lowest price yet. Although the PC version isn’t seeing the same discount, you can still grab a Steam code on Fanatical for $52.79, down from the usual $59.99.
Unlike many of today’s sprawling action titles, Space Marine 2 opts for a more streamlined approach—an approach that’s refreshingly straightforward. The storyline unfolds in the distant future where battles rage perpetually in the 41st millennium. Our protagonist, Titus, an Ultramarine devoted to the Emperor of Mankind, is rejoining the frontlines after a lengthy pause of a couple of centuries.
The Warhammer 40,000 universe is a rich tapestry I’ve explored for years, buried in codices, rulebooks, and tales from an era 10,000 years past, all unraveling the origins of the Space Marines. What struck me about Space Marine 2 is its ease of entry—you don’t need a secondary device to unravel the plot. Yet, the game stays true to its 40K roots, with its robotic cherubs and mechanical cultists adding depth to Titus’ battle cruiser setting. The campaign backdrop mirrors the grandeur, gothic elements, and sometimes ridiculous scale of the Imperium of Man and the Imperial Guard.
The real thrill, however, lies in the combat. Witness Titus as he tears through Tyranid swarms, ripping them apart with gauntlets and stomping them underfoot. Throw in some exciting weapons, like a flamethrower perfect for crisping Rippers or a precision laser sniper rifle, and you’ve got yourself an exhilarating experience.
