Riot Games, the company behind League of Legends, is tightening its rules by banning content creators who breach its terms of service, even outside their games.
Starting January 3rd, according to a post on their website, Riot will begin removing creators for problematic behavior, like using offensive language towards others while engaging with Riot’s games. This move is part of their updated ‘Off-Platform Conduct’ terms.
“Our aim with this update is to shield players from harmful behavior that can affect their overall gaming experience,” the company explained.
The update targets content specifically featuring Riot’s games as the backdrop. While Riot won’t be actively patrolling all of social media, it reserves the right to impose in-game penalties if such behavior is reported. For instance, if a creator uses offensive slurs against another player during a live stream, even if not directly in the game’s chat or voice channels, Riot can still issue penalties just as if it had happened in the game itself.
