Splitgate fans, get ready to dive back into the action as the follow-up to the hit shooter is now taking sign-ups for playtesting.
Every so often, a shooter appears out of nowhere and takes the gaming world by surprise. In 2021, that was exactly the case with Splitgate, which caught fire during its indefinite beta phase. While it felt like an overnight sensation, the game had actually been in early access for a couple of years before its full release. In 2022, once the full game was launched, 1047 Games made a surprising announcement. They’d be pausing new features on this Halo-meets-Portal game to focus on crafting a sequel powered by Unreal Engine 5!
The sequel got its official announcement earlier this year and is expected to drop sometime in 2025. Now, according to their official Twitter account, you can sign up to be a part of the next playtest.
The tweet announcing the playtest reads, “Suit up and get ready for more Splitgate 2! The team’s been working on something explosive, and we’re eager to hear your thoughts.” Signing up is quite straightforward. You’ll fill out a Google form, answering questions about your experience with the first game, other recent shooters you’ve played, and your preferred platform.
It’s important to note that you’ll be asked for your Steam and Discord handles, likely because the testing might take place via these platforms. If you’re someone who values privacy, this requirement could be a hurdle.
In September, Connor from our team had a chat with the CEO of 1047 Games. They discussed keeping the gameplay fresh and the valuable lessons learned from games like Halo Reach—it’s definitely worth checking out!
