The eagerly anticipated release of Hitman: World of Assassination for PlayStation VR2 has been postponed to next year. Originally announced during September’s State of Play event, IO Interactive initially slated this immersive experience for a December 2024 launch. However, fans will now have to wait until March 27, 2025. The studio explained that the delay allows them to refine the game further and integrate additional features like active manual reloading.
Addressing the delay on the PlayStation Blog, IO Interactive expressed their commitment to delivering a top-tier experience. The team understood the enthusiastic anticipation surrounding the game’s arrival on PS VR2 and opted for the delay to ensure the final product aligns with the high expectations of their players. By taking a bit more time, not only can they polish the game but they can also introduce some exciting new features.
This isn’t the first foray of the Hitman series into virtual reality; it’s the third, following ventures into Quest and PC VR/PSVR. This new installment includes all the main levels from the rebooted trilogy and brings fresh features such as dual-wielding and room-scale gameplay. Additionally, the game comes packed with new controls and mechanics.
One of the standout features on PS VR2 is the introduction of “positional interactions.” This means players will need to physically imitate actions like swiping a keycard or turning a lock, making the experience more immersive than simply pushing a button. Even quest items have become tangible, allowing players to examine them directly in their hands.
Scheduled for release on March 27, 2025, Hitman: World of Assassination will be available as a paid upgrade. For those who already own the flatscreen version on PS5, this upgrade can be accessed for $10.
