Studio Fizbin, the creative minds behind Reignbreaker, is sadly winding down operations by the end of this month. This announcement was made publicly via their website and first caught everyone’s attention, including Game Developer. The closure will come shortly after their latest title, Reignbreaker, hits the shelves on March 18th. Founder and CEO, Alexander Pieper, attributed this difficult decision in large part to Thunderful’s substantial cutback on internal projects.
“The gaming industry is facing rough waters at the moment, and like many other talented studios out there, we’ve been hit hard in recent months,” shared Pieper.
Continuing, he explained, “Back in November 2024, Thunderful, our parent company, made the call to significantly slash their internal development—something Thunderful’s CEO, Martin, highlighted in their most recent quarterly brief. This impact inevitably reached us at Studio Fizbin. Since then, we’ve been on the lookout for new ventures post-Reignbreaker, but unfortunately, none have materialized. This leads us to the tough choice of closing down.”
Pieper expressed gratitude, saying, “To all our fans, thank you immensely for every purchase, every piece of fan art, review, comment, and all your support that seems to never end. We wouldn’t have made it this far without you.”
He also extended thanks to their business partners and funding bodies like Medienboard, MfG, Creative Europe, and federal sponsors for their steadfast backing.
In a heartfelt note, Pieper saluted his team, “A special thank you goes to our team—those still with us and those who have taken new paths. It’s the Fizbin team that truly brings our games to life, making this one of the most inspiring places to tackle what often feels like the world’s toughest magic: game development.”
