Ancient Dungeon VR, a beloved rogue-lite dungeon crawler, has just stepped up its game with an exciting update on PSVR 2, introducing multiplayer co-op for fans craving a shared adventure.
Back when it was first released in 2021 on Steam Early Access and the now-retired App Lab for Quest, Ancient Dungeon provided a deeply immersive solo journey. Players lost themselves in over 20 hours of twisting dungeons, where they engaged in physics-driven battles against blocky wizards, skeletons, and other classic Dungeons & Dragons-style adversaries.
In mid-2024, the Quest and SteamVR versions of the game embraced the multiplayer spirit by adding four-player co-op. However, PSVR 2 players had to wait it out, as this version only made its debut in December 2023 without the co-op feature.
Now, thanks to the game’s creator, Eric Thullen, PSVR 2 users can finally team up with friends. The new update enables up to four players to bravely explore the game’s dynamically created dungeons, avoiding traps and defeating foes in cooperative mode.
During a Reddit Q&A session, Thullen addressed the current limitations regarding cross-play, confirming that although it’s not available yet, compatibility with Quest and PC VR platforms “will be coming at a later date.”
Ancient Dungeon stands out as one of the VR industry’s indie triumphs. It first caught the community’s attention with a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2020 and followed up with a warmly received beta that collected over 1,000 glowing reviews, earning an impressive score of 4.8 out of 5.
Today, nearly five years later, the game’s momentum shows no sign of slowing. The development team continues to roll out updates, introducing new weapons, cosmetics, insight upgrades, additional dungeon levels, and relics. These enhancements are being prepared as the team diligently works towards the highly anticipated 1.0 release, which they have mentioned in a Steam update is still “a ways to go.”
If you’re eager to jump into the action, Ancient Dungeon VR is available on Steam for PC VR headsets, the Horizon Store for Quest, and the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2, all at the price of $20.
