A dramatic price cut during a major sale event significantly boosted the PSVR 2 headset’s holiday sales on Amazon in the US, hitting a mark nearly five times higher than the previous year.
The PSVR 2 experienced a whopping 42% price slash on its Horizon bundle for Black Friday and the holiday season, dropping the price from $550 down to $350. This enticing discount clearly drove up sales to a level few might have anticipated. Compared to the 2023 holiday season, the PSVR 2’s sales volume reached almost five times its previous peak during the 2024 season on Amazon US.
Admittedly, 2023 didn’t see any major sales pushes for the headset. However, there’s a general expectation that a 50% discount would result in a corresponding 50% increase in sales. Yet, this scenario illustrates a much more complex interaction between price and customer demand for the PSVR 2.
Sony initiated their sale prior to Black Friday and allowed it to extend long past into the new year of 2024. The duration of this sale could suggest that Sony was aiming to clear out current stock, possibly due to the upcoming release of a new SKU, perhaps a fresh bundle or a redesigned, more affordable model. While some have speculated that Sony might be losing confidence in the headset, possibly leading to a clearance sale prior to discontinuation, we believe the company plans to continue offering the PSVR 2 at least until the arrival of its next console cycle, albeit without placing significant emphasis on it for now.
