We’re gearing up to review Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island, and I had the pleasure of chatting with Alex Kanaris-Sotiriou, co-founder of Polygon Treehouse, to dive into some details about the game. Let’s explore what he had to say!
PS4Blog: Morning, Alex! Welcome back! How have things been on your side?
Thanks for having me! Things have been pretty hectic! After our last indie game, Röki, came out, I’ve been immersed in the world of folklore and mythology once again. This time, we’ve taken a fresh angle by imagining what the Greek gods would be like if they were part of today’s world with Mythwrecked.
PS4B: Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island is set to launch on the Nintendo Switch on December 5. Can you give us some insight into this new game?
We call Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island an ‘explore-o-story’ adventure. Players step into the shoes of Alex, a backpacker who ends up on a forgotten island after a sudden storm disrupts their holiday. While there, you’ll buddy up with the Greek gods, help them regain their memories, and ultimately, seek a way back home.
PS4B: Speaking of development, when did you start working on the project? How has the game evolved from its initial concept to the finished version we’ll soon see?
It all started roughly three years ago. The core idea was set early on, with elements like radar treasure hunting and memory flashbacks staying consistent throughout. A significant change, though, has been the ‘Story Sandbox’—these are the dynamic conversations with the gods. It took a few iterations, but I’m really thrilled with how it turned out, creating a vivid sense of being part of an unfolding story.
PS4B: Röki got a physical release previously. Any chance Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island will follow suit?
I’m a huge fan of physical releases, and it was exciting to have one for Röki. At the moment, there’s no news on a physical release for Mythwrecked, although it’s definitely something I’d be keen to pursue eventually.
PS4B: Before we wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share?
Thanks for stopping by! If cozy games, mythology, adventure, or a touch of mystery appeals to you, then I highly encourage you to check out Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island. We believe it has all the makings of an unforgettable indie game adventure!
