Growing up in the ’90s, I have a fondness for Polly Pocket, those tiny dollhouses I used to carry everywhere. Tiny Garden takes me right back to those days, offering a relaxing blend of gardening and decorating all packed into a Polly Pocket-style case. You crank the handle to start each in-game day, making it feel as much like a little toy as it is a game. Even though Tiny Garden isn’t out until April 8, I’ve had the chance to explore its demo during the Steam Next Fest, and it’s been a blast.
Tiny Garden brims with a certain charm. It starts with the simple joy of nurturing plants. You begin your journey with radishes, carrots, and cacti, gradually moving on to species that require a bit more attention and strategy. This is where the game’s puzzle aspect shines. The soil’s conditions change based on previous plantings, so planning is key. Moreover, you can use your harvest to trade for delightful decorations to beautify your pint-sized world both inside and outside your little garden toy.
There’s a deeper narrative woven into the game. As you play with this whimsical toy, a story unfolds. According to the game’s developer, Ao Norte, Tiny Garden has a history of its own, as noted on the Steam store page. Through letters found in the game, you unravel a touching narrative that reveals the profound connections people have with objects over time. With every new plant or piece of decor, you gain insight into a heartfelt past.
For me, Tiny Garden has been pure joy, a lovely escape amidst the chaos of daily life. The game offers a rich variety of activities and creative opportunities without overwhelming you. Its main goal is straightforward: create and enjoy at your own pace. Let yourself be amazed by the surprises that each turn brings. This compact game truly has a lot to offer.
