When Sony decided to bring some of its exclusive games to PC, gamers were thrilled. Yet, that excitement took a hit when Sony insisted on PlayStation Network accounts for playing these titles. Thankfully, recent news brings good tidings: several of these PlayStation games on PC no longer demand a PSN account for basic gameplay.
In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Asad Qizilbash shared exciting updates about fresh in-game bonuses for four PlayStation titles available on PC, namely God of War: Ragnarok, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered. Qizilbash explained that starting tomorrow, PSN accounts will become optional. However, if you wish to unlock new in-game perks or collect trophies, you’ll still need an account.
Qizilbash stated, "With the arrival of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PC tomorrow, we’ve been striving to enhance the benefits offered to those who play with a PlayStation Network account." He added that "upcoming releases like The Last of Us Part II Remastered, as well as God of War Ragnarok and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, will soon introduce exclusive content for users linked to the PlayStation Network."
He reassured players, saying, "For these PC titles, a PlayStation Network account will be optional. Those who decide to sign in will continue to enjoy additional perks, including trophies and the option to manage friends."
This news should be a relief for PlayStation fans on PC, considering the contentious debates sparked by last year’s Helldivers 2 requirements. While some enticing features might be out of reach without an account, at least creating an extra login won’t be a must for everyone.
