Exciting times for PlayStation enthusiasts and those who love vibrant, colorful games! Last night, Astro Bot snagged a BAFTA award, and not just any award—it took home the Game of the Year trophy. This charming game surpassed formidable competitors like Helldivers 2 and Balatro to claim this prestigious honor.
But Astro Bot didn’t stop there. It collected several other accolades, including awards for Audio Achievement, Animation, Family, and Game Design. This success follows its previous Game of the Year triumph at The Game Awards the year before, once more besting a lineup of stellar games in what was truly a competitive 2024.
During the awards ceremony, the entire team came up on stage to collect their prize. Nicolas Doucet took the mic to deliver a heartfelt speech, giving a special nod to the devoted team in Japan. “A huge thank you to everyone back in Japan,” he said. “They put so much love and care into crafting this game, piece by piece, each day. We weren’t thinking about winning awards; we just wanted to bring more joy to people’s lives.”
Nicolas didn’t forget to express gratitude to a variety of contributors, from the game’s composer to the folks at PlayStation, along with all the partners whose games were featured in Astro Bot. He also extended his thanks to the BAFTA academy, the supportive families of the developers, and the pioneering video game creators who paved the way.
How do you feel about Astro Bot’s sweep at this year’s BAFTAs? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
