Hey there! So, Nintendo just dropped some pretty exciting news about what’s coming after the Switch, and it’s got a lot of fans buzzing.
In a briefing today that coincided with their Q2 2024-2025 results, Nintendo confirmed that their next console—whatever they end up calling it—will fully support Switch games. They’re ensuring that Nintendo Switch Online will continue to be available on this new console too.
During the briefing, Furukawa stated: “Switch software will be playable on the successor to Nintendo Switch. Nintendo Switch Online will transition seamlessly as well. More details on its compatibility are coming soon.” This update was shared directly from Nintendo Co. Ltd’s Twitter.
Now, what remains to be seen is whether this means we’ll have digital backwards compatibility or if the new console will let us use our physical Switch games. It’s kind of like how the 3DS could handle DS cartridges, and more info on this is expected in the future. Stay tuned!
