Netflix just unveiled the opening credits for its upcoming animated series based on the classic Devil May Cry games. This sneak peek, shared on Thursday, showcases the anime adaptation crafted by Adi Shankar and Studio Mir, and they’ve made a daring yet perfectly fitting choice for the opening theme: Limp Bizkit’s "Rollin’." This energetic track, a hit from the 2000 album Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water, adds a nostalgic punch right from the start.
Both the original Devil May Cry game and Limp Bizkit’s third album hail from the vibrant early 2000s era. While some hardcore fans might argue that the series should stick with its original music, it’s hard to deny that "Rollin’" captures the spirit of the era and serves as an inspired choice for the series’ tone.
To add to the excitement, Netflix announced that Devil May Cry will begin streaming on April 3. Originally expected in 2024, fans will be pleased to have a solid date to look forward to at last.
The anime is executive produced by Adi Shankar, known for his work on Castlevania and Captain Laserhawk, with Alex Larsen, who penned Yasuke, handling the script. This eight-part series will delve into the backstory of a younger Dante, taking inspiration from the 2005 prequel, Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening. Studio Mir, reputable for its work on The Legend of Korra, The Boondocks, Young Justice, and Harley Quinn, is handling the animation.
Devil May Cry on Netflix draws from Capcom’s iconic 23-year-old action franchise, originally brought to life by game designer Hideki Kamiya. Interestingly, Kamiya recently announced his return to another beloved series, Okami. While it’s been over five years since the latest Devil May Cry game was released, fans are hopeful that Devil May Cry 5 won’t be the final chapter of this legendary saga.
