You’re not imagining things or getting caught up in some wild promotional stunt. It’s actually some brilliant marketing by the American shoe brand. This November, Epic Games introduced a new cosmetic item in Fortnite known as Kicks. It offers players the chance to jazz up their characters by picking out which shoes they flaunt. So, it’s now perfectly feasible—and totally legit—for Zuko to strut around a battle royale wearing Nike sneakers.
With Kicks, Fortnite has begun rolling out a select batch of shoes in two separate drops. The first wave includes four unique pairs, each with its own price tag. For instance, you can snag a pair of basic white leather Nikes for 800 V-bucks, while a snazzier pair, the galaxy-patterned high tops, will set you back 1,000 V-bucks. Personally, I find the Chomp Stompers shark slippers the cutest of the bunch, and they won’t break the bank, costing just 600 V-bucks.
When it comes to in-game purchases, Kicks are on the steeper side. Players can pick up 1,000 V-bucks for $8.99, and there’s already chatter about how these items are priced too high. Plus, Kicks are only wearable by a select group of Fortnite characters. You can customize the kicks for folks like Satoru Gojo and John Wick, but unfortunately, not for Avatar Aang. Despite these limitations, there’s still a decent array of character and shoe pairings that let players craft some truly whimsical looks.
