This week is set to be a big one for gaming enthusiasts with the anticipated unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2, finally bringing an end to a flood of rumors and leaks that have swirled for weeks.
The news came from insider Nate during the latest episode of the Nate the Hate Podcast, where he delved into what he knows about Nintendo’s plans to introduce the next iteration of their hybrid-console. At around the 17-minute mark, Nate confidently stated, “I can share with you, right now, that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be revealed in the coming week. I’ve been informed it will debut on Thursday, January 16.”
He went on, “With only a few days until this episode goes live, I’ve picked up some snippets about what’s coming in the reveal. The details I have seem a bit scattered and don’t entirely make sense to me yet, but I believe they’ll become clearer after the official announcement.”
According to Nate, the reveal will largely center on the hardware itself, with little emphasis on games. “Don’t expect a strong game presence,” he advised. “We might see a game running on the console screen or even displayed on a TV, but software won’t be the highlight. So, if there’s a noticeable lack of game footage, try not to be taken aback.”
Reflecting on past reveals, he added, “I imagine it’ll echo the October 2016 reveal somewhat, though that event did prominently showcase games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Skyrim, NBA 2K18, and Splatoon 2. Those games weren’t officially announced at the time, but they were teased.”
Nate expects this upcoming presentation to be more subdued. “We might just get a good look at the system, some of its features, the Joy-Con, perhaps the new logo, and maybe even the packaging.”
Looking ahead, he speculated, “From what I’ve heard, either late February or early March seems likely for a comprehensive software showcase for the Nintendo Switch 2. That will probably be the time and place where we’ll see a lineup of third-party and Nintendo games. I find it hard to imagine a new console reveal without any game presence whatsoever.”
Official confirmations have been sparse amid the endless rumor mill. What we do know is that Nintendo has pledged to unveil their Switch successor by March 2025, with backwards compatibility already in the cards for staying true to its predecessor.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is set for a global release sometime in 2025, not long before or after its big reveal before March 31 of that year. Excitement is building as fans await further details on this new generation of portable gaming bliss.
