Dapperwings flutter across the skies of Monster Hunter Wilds, and if you’re diving into an early side quest named “Samin’s Research Report,” capturing one of these winged creatures is on your to-do list for the research team stationed at the Windward Plains base camp.
This task follows another quest, “Dareel’s Research Report,” where your job was to snag tracktail lizards.
In this guide, I’m going to walk you through the process of tracking down and capturing dapperwings in Monster Hunter Wilds to help you check off that quest box.

### Where to Find Dapperwings in Monster Hunter Wilds
First things first, you’ll want to head to Scarlet Forest’s verdant areas. The Bower of the Great Tree, found in Area 7, is a good starting point. From there, make your way to Area 6, where we discovered multiple dapperwing hangouts.
Dapperwings tend to flock together, usually alighting on fallen trees and branches. We found them aplenty during daylight hours. Their calls are reminiscent of your typical feathered friends, which can serve as an audio cue.
For some extra guidance, venture east from where Area 6 is marked on your map and keep your eyes peeled for birds resting in the trees.

### How to Catch a Dapperwing in Monster Hunter Wilds
Spotting a dapperwing is one thing; now, it’s time to catch them. You’ll need your capture net, which you can access from either your item bar or the Essential Items radial menu. Need a boost to your reach? Hop onto your Seikret and aim from there.
Approach the dapperwings cautiously to keep them from fluttering away. Unlike the tracktail lizards, dapperwings are perched higher up and won’t be spooked by your approach. Watch for your rectangle reticle to shift to a yellow-orange color; that’s your cue to fire.
Remember, hit that L2/LT button, not the typical square/X!
Once you’ve successfully completed “Samin’s Research Report,” you’ll be rewarded with ten blue mushrooms, five honey, 50 guild points, and some handy experience boosts for your hunter rank and palico level.
