Episode 900 of the podcast has finally launched, and James has cooked up an intriguing topic for us this week. Did you realize that it’s been ten years since the launch of amiibo in November? Maybe you didn’t, but now you do! Stick with us, and by the end of our amiibo retrospective, you’ll have more information than you ever thought you’d need. We’ve got a fun quiz lined up called “Can You Name the Non-amiibo?” It’s James Jones’ amiibo or amii-NO challenge, and it kicks off around the 5:35 mark. Following that, we dive into the history of the amiibo platform and proudly show off our personal collections around 54:55.
After a quick pause, we receive some exciting news straight from Nintendo’s President, Shuntaro Furukawa— the next Switch will have backward compatibility (tune in at 1:19:49).
As we move towards the close of Episode 900, we read out some heartwarming messages we’ve received from our listeners—one requesting 300 more episodes (catch it at 1:35:05), another more modestly asking for 100, and a fascinating question about system-heavy games (at 1:50:24). Finally, we delve into games that have quite unexpectedly been a monkey’s paw for players (at 2:11:55).
There’s been an overwhelming number of well-wishes, too many to cover in just one episode, so we’ll touch on more of those in the episodes to come. A huge thank you to everyone who has been part of our journey to this milestone at RFN.
This episode was skillfully edited by Guillaume Veillette. The catchy “Men of Leisure” theme song you heard was specially crafted for Radio Free Nintendo by Perry Burkum. You can check out more of Perry’s work on SoundCloud. The Radio Free Nintendo logo? That was designed by Connor Strickland, and you can see more of his creations on his website.
The episode wraps up with the closing music of “Stickerbrush Symphony” from Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest, composed by David Wise and requested by regmcfly. All rights belong to Nintendo Co., Ltd.
