Hey there, Xbox fans! We’ve got some exciting news that’s sure to put a smile on your face. We’re thrilled to let you know that our latest game, Overthrown, is set to make its debut on Xbox Series X|S and PC this December 5, available through Xbox Game Preview and Game Pass. For those who are just tuning in, Overthrown isn’t your typical city builder. In addition to building and managing your city, you’ll harness chaotic energies and superhero-like abilities, all wrapped up in an anime-inspired package. And what’s more? You can team up with up to five friends! You’ll work together to fend off mutants and bandits, ensuring your city’s survival. Today, I’ll be sharing a few nifty tips to elevate your co-op experience.
Let’s set the stage with a little backstory. Armed with an ancient, magical crown, you gain the power to lift nearly anything—whether it’s towering trees or pesky monster nests ain’t no thing. You can even hoist entire buildings like a sawmill, meaning you don’t need to feed individual trees—you can literally plow through forests, collecting them as you go. Your abilities are limitless! With supersonic speed, an epic throw, and a whirlwind spin attack that sends you flying like a human helicopter, the possibilities are endless. Now, picture having such powers along with five of your friends. Can you imagine the hilarious hijinks?
To kick off your co-op sessions with a bang, here are a few handy hints.
One Crown to Rule Them All
When you’re in co-op mode, keep your eyes peeled for the magical Crown that pops up on the map—anyone can grab it. Everyone has Crown powers, but the one sporting the Crown gains the most energy, allowing for those awesome moves to be executed more rapidly. While you’re all on the same team, a little friendly competition never hurt anyone, right? At some point during your play, the Crown might get snatched or misplaced—whoops! This is your cue for some friendly rivalry. Enemies like the Tuskar or Outlaws might pick it up, and it’ll be your job to retrieve it. Whoever manages to grab it back enjoys a nice bonus boost. And remember, Overthrown is all about cooperation, so no PvP shenanigans to steal the Crown from your pals.
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
The more workstations you establish, the more citizens you’re going to see popping up in your city. With friends, you can each tackle different areas, fast-tracking your growth and citizen spawning right from the get-go. Not everyone’s cut out for every job though. If building is your thing and your buddy prefers the action-packed side of things, there’s room for both of you to shine. It’s all about playing to your strengths.
Experiment
Last but not least, don’t be afraid to experiment. From the start, Overthrown was all about nurturing player curiosity. We want you and your friends thinking, "Can I do this?" followed by "What happens if I try that?" Spoiler alert: Yes, you can! Yes, please do! We’ve designed this game with exploration and discovery at its core, letting you enjoy moments of surprise and downright silly fun! That’s the true essence of playing with friends!
We’re stoked to have you join us on this adventure, whether on your own or with your buddies. As we journey through Game Preview, we’re crafting Overthrown with your feedback in mind. Come along for the ride starting December 5, when Overthrown launches on Xbox and PC through Game Pass.
And just a quick note: The initial launch date was mentioned as December 10, but it’s actually December 5. See you in the game!
