Today, Devolver Digital is up to its usual antics with the release of the Devolver Delayed Awards. In a pre-recorded “awards” show, the company humorously acknowledged a trio of games that it plans to push back to 2025.
With their trademark wit, Devolver applauded its developers for “the bravery and resolve” to delay their games into the next fiscal year. Let’s take a look at the winners and the (imaginary) nominees.
### Best Inadvertent Tripping Simulator
### Best Late-Stage Capitalism Roguelite
### Best Glass Demon in a Leading Role
The awards show didn’t just feature these comically fake categories loaded with equally fictional games (I’d totally be down for a game like Windshield Repair Simulator). It also included speeches from the developers of the genuinely delayed titles, all of which are now aiming for a 2025 release. Fun fact: Sam Eng from Skate Story is recovering from a broken arm, so maybe ease up on the demands for the game’s release.
Devolver did something similar back in 2023, poking fun at the classic Nintendo Direct format. Their Devolver Delayed Showcase of that year gleefully announced postponements for games such as The Plucky Squire, Stick It to the Stickman, Anger Foot, Pepper Grinder, and, of course, Skate Story.
Even though these delays might be a bit of a headache from a business standpoint, it’s refreshing to see Devolver prioritize giving developers the time they need to fully realize their projects instead of rushing out half-baked games for a quick profit.
Per Devolver Digital’s official site, we’re also waiting on launch dates for games like Possessor(s), Tenjutsu, Human Fall Flat 2, and Forestrike.
