If you’re a fan of pinball and have a soft spot for Dungeons & Dragons, then you’ll likely find this new machine both a visual treat and a financial splurge. Pinball machines have always held a certain nostalgic charm for me. While they might seem like relics from a bygone era, they’ve managed to survive—and even thrive—by becoming ever more elaborate. Honestly, I’d love to have one at home just to save on those countless quarters. But the snag is, I’d need to shell out even more to actually buy one. Especially if we’re talking about this officially licensed Dungeons & Dragons pinball machine.
Crafted by Stern Pinball, the colossal name in pinball manufacturing, this machine is a sight to behold. They’ve partnered with Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the tabletop RPG. The machine takes players on an exhilarating journey through the forgotten realms, filled with iconic D&D foes like the fearsome red dragon, the tricky mimic, and the ominous Xanathar. Fans will also recognize locations from FaerĂ»n, such as Arabel and Westgate. And if that wasn’t enough, voices from D&D legends like Critical Role’s Matthew Mercer, Laura Bailey, and Marisha Ray are featured, along with Luke Gygax, son of legendary co-creator Gary Gygax.
The cast has its surprises, though. Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance fame is among the voice actors. Why is he part of this? Your guess is as good as mine. But it’s a fun tidbit to share if you end up buying one.
However, owning this beauty comes with a hefty price tag. The basic Pro version will set you back at least $7,000. Want the Premium edition? That’s going up to $9,700. And if you’re eyeing the Limited Edition, which is restricted to just 740 units, prepare to part with a staggering $13,000. It’s undeniably a fantastic pinball machine, but personally, I think I’ll admire it from afar.
