Bungie’s ‘Marathon’ Launches on Xbox This September, Closed Alpha Arrives This Month

Today, Bungie gave us our first detailed glimpse of their upcoming extraction shooter, Marathon. Gamers can mark their calendars because it’s set to launch for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on September 23rd, 2025.

In Marathon, you get to choose your Runner – think of them as cybernetic mercenaries, each equipped with their own unique set of abilities. Team up with up to three friends to take on hostile AI security forces and rival Runners. Along the way, you’ll gather weapons, implants, and gear, and if you make it out alive, whatever you collect stays with you for future sessions.

Here’s the scoop: you and your squad will drop into a zone, aiming to loot and escape in one piece. You’ll face multiple threats, not just from security AI but also from other player teams you’ll encounter. Survive, and you’ll keep all the spoils. For those daring enough, there’s an option to go solo, facing everything alone and attempting to make off with the loot all by yourself.
