There’s a lot of chatter these days about the possibility of an Xbox handheld console, and Asus has done its part to keep the excitement building with a teaser video on its X account, what we all used to call Twitter.
In the clip, you’ll see a robot working on its own upgrades at a terminal. Just as it’s about to apply these enhancements, something intriguing happens: a device that bears a striking resemblance to an ROG Ally X gaming console and an ROG Raikiri Pro controller shows up. In an unexpected twist, after the dust settles, the robot transforms into a gaming console that seems a lot like Asus’s high-end handheld.
Adding a fun twist to the narrative is Xbox’s official account, which joined in with a cheeky side-eye meme response. While no official word has been given just yet, this playful exchange hints at something intriguing — probably referring to Project Kennan. This initiative involves Microsoft and Asus working together on a gaming handheld aiming to merge Xbox and Windows into a cohesive platform.
Both Asus and Xbox have been tight-lipped about specifics, but the teaser offered some juicy tidbits. Anticipate a device with a longer battery life, better performance, more storage, and a fresh design.
The video hit the internet on March 31, 2025, at 2 p.m. EST. The timing seems quite deliberate, likely an effort to dodge any chance of it being dismissed as an April Fool’s Day joke, especially with so many tech companies sharing pranks. Remember the ROG Ally unveiling a few years back on April 1? That turned out genuine, and this project seems to follow suit.
In other news, Nintendo enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the announcement of the Switch 2 on April 2 at Nintendo Direct. Could Asus’s reveal be trying to grab some of that spotlight? While information was limited, it certainly got PC gamers and handheld fans buzzing. True die-hard Nintendo fans, however, may remain unfazed.
Looking ahead, we don’t anticipate a new Xbox console until around 2027. However, the thought of an ‘Xbox handheld’ hitting the market sooner is pretty appealing. Fingers crossed, it will run Xbox games directly, instead of being just a Windows 11 device with an Xbox facade.
