Days Gone is getting a fresh lease on life as it heads to PlayStation 5 on April 25th with a remastered edition. This definitive version of the game is loaded with an array of new modes and features, while technical upgrades take full advantage of the PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles. Gamers on PC aren’t left out either, as the exciting new game modes—Horde Assault, Permadeath, and Speedrun—will be accessible through the Broken Road DLC. Whether you’re firing up those engines for the first time or are a veteran Drifter, there’s a slew of new content to dive into and plenty of surprises awaiting your discovery. Don’t forget to check out our announcement blog for an in-depth look at what’s new in Days Gone Remastered.
Horde Assault is a noteworthy addition and one of the most expansive changes in the remaster. This survival arcade mode demands from you, as survival is key against increasing horde sizes and tough enemies like Breakers, Reachers, and Rager bears. It’s a wild ride through an ever-evolving landscape where enemies become fiercer the longer you stay alive. Tapping into the spirit of “This World Comes For You,” Horde Assault offers a unique take on the open-world gameplay of Days Gone, challenging players to show those Freakers who’s in charge.
Starting off in the Cascade region armed with just a sidearm, you’ll need to battle your way to your Drifter bike. This trusty ride is essential for navigating the expansive map. Scattered supply boxes are your lifeline, containing potent weapons that can tip the scales of survival in your favor. With a selection of over 20 weapons—including a new flamethrower you won’t find in Story mode—these random-supply opportunities are crucial. Each new attempt sees them reset, keeping each run unpredictable and fresh.
Staying alive out there means managing your resources and tackling Side Jobs for extra XP. These tasks can be vital, especially when you’re being hunted by crowds of up to 800 Freakers. After thirty minutes of survival on any map, brace yourself for the Ultimate Horde—a relentless mob with no end. We’ll leave the rest for you to discover.
Rising through Horde Assault offers rewards with each level you achieve. Unlock never-before-playable characters, earn patches, and discover unique Injectors that significantly alter your gameplay. Fans of the Story mode will recognize Injectors, but here they come with modifiers. Positive Injectors boost your score but ramp up difficulty, while Negative Injectors ease gameplay but penalize your score. You can collect a total of 24 injectors, offering countless ways to tailor your experience.
Without giving too much away, two notable Injectors are Exploding Freakers—perfect when facing substantial hordes—and Wanted, which starts you off at maximum heat level, making it quite the challenge for only the bravest survivors.
Rewards extend beyond gameplay benefits with a rewards path stretching over 35 levels. Unlocking these levels grants Injectors, skins, patches, and opens up six new characters, including O’Brian, Lisa, and the fan-favorite Skizzo. Patches return as cosmetic enhancements that players can flaunt in Enhanced Photo Mode.
Horde Assault marks itself as endgame content, but don’t let that stop newcomers from jumping straight in. However, for those new to Days Gone, exploring the story mode first could be wise. Expect an additional 10 hours of gameplay from Horde Assault alone, enhancing the already content-rich Days Gone experience.
Starting April 25, 2025, players can access Horde Assault on PS5 with Days Gone Remastered and on PC with the Broken Road DLC. Pre-orders for Days Gone Remastered are open on the PlayStation Store. Players who own the PS4 version have the option to upgrade for just $10 USD.*
We’re thrilled for you to dive into all these enhancements, and perhaps take a ride with Deacon St. John once more.
*Note: Pricing in the U.S. may vary by region. For PS4 disc owners, the disc must be inserted into the PS5 to access the digital version. PlayStation Plus redemptions excluded from upgrade options.
