In recent gaming news, AMD has shot down speculation about the development of a Radeon 9070 XT GPU with a massive 32 GB of memory.
Frank Azor Sets the Record Straight on RX 9070 XT Memory
Rumors have been swirling that AMD was preparing a powerful 32 GB version of its RX 9070 XT graphics card. You might remember that a leaker from Chiphell hinted at the possibility of this new edition hitting the market soon. The talk was that it would belong to the ‘Gaming’ series, not AMD’s PRO lineup.
Well, that chatter has proved to be baseless. Frank Azor from AMD directly addressed the speculation in a recent interaction on Techpowerup’s X thread, confirming that users shouldn’t hold their breath for a 32 GB version of the GPU:
“No, the 9070 XT card is not coming in 32 GB capacity.”

Instead, the Radeon RX 9070 XT will be equipped with 16 GB of GDDR6 VRAM. Even with this configuration, some feel the GPU might not experience significant performance boosts with a 32 GB model, especially for gaming purposes. Earlier rumors suggested this extra memory would target AI applications but could still support gaming.
So far, AMD has never ventured into self-contained gaming GPUs with 32 GB of memory, and strategically, it makes sense not to overburden an upper-mid-range GPU with it. With the RX 9070 XT positioned as the leading card in the Navi 48 GPU series, it seems unlikely that AMD will exceed 16 GB in the RDNA 4 lineup.
The less powerful siblings in this series, such as the RX 9070 and those built on the Navi 44 platform, will naturally have lower specs and performance. The big reveal for the RX 9000 series is scheduled for February 28th, where official details, including specs, pricing, and AMD’s own performance benchmarks, will be shared.
Following this announcement, the actual retail debut is slated for early March. At the same time, NVIDIA is poised to introduce the GeForce RTX 5070. Frank Azor has previously indicated that AMD’s ’70-class’ cards are designed to compete directly with NVIDIA’s offerings. The impending showdown between the RX 9070 XT and the RTX 5070 Ti or RX 5070 promises to be an exhilarating match-up for gamers everywhere.
