Gaijin Entertainment, the creator of the popular War Thunder (2013), has exciting news for fans of aerial combat! Their new VR game, Aces of Thunder, is expected to take flight on PSVR 2 and PC VR headsets later this year.
Initially announced in 2023, Aces of Thunder was initially slated for a Q4 2024 release. The game promises to bring to life some of the most iconic planes from around the world, available on both SteamVR and PSVR 2.
Gaijin has really pulled out all the stops, showcasing an impressive array of not just World War II-era aircraft, but also planes from the World War I era.
“In the game, you’ll get to pilot legendary fighters like the Fokker Dr.I, famously flown by the Red Baron, and the SPAD S.XIII, the plane of choice for René Fonck, the Allies’ top ace. These aircraft come with meticulously detailed cockpits, historically accurate armaments, and flight models designed to deliver a truly immersive experience,” the studio shares.
These historical marvels join the roster of WWII planes in the game, which includes stalwarts like the American P-51 Mustang, the P-63 Kingcobra, Germany’s Bf 109 and Fw 190 fighters, the Soviet IL-2, Britain’s Spitfire, and Japan’s A6M3 Zero.
While the exact launch date for Aces of Thunder remains under wraps, Gaijin has confirmed to Road to VR that it’s now aiming for a 2025 release. Until then, you can add it to your wishlist on both Steam and the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2.
The price point remains a mystery for now, but enthusiasts should be on high alert for any updates as they come. Stay tuned to find out more about Aces of Thunder as we await its eventual release.
