Recently, 2XKO unveiled an exciting development: an offline mode where all the champions will be unlocked. This move is tailored to support grassroots tournament organizers who are eager to host events without the headache of unlocking champions on numerous accounts.
The revelation came during a 2XKO community tour in France, where fans had the chance to engage in a Q&A session. Tom Cannon, the executive producer of 2XKO, seemed to contemplate how much he should disclose, but eventually decided to go for it, sharing insights about the new mode.
“I understand the struggle of setting up numerous stations for a tournament,” Cannon acknowledged. “We want to ensure the process is seamless. Our goal is to allow you to host tournaments offline without any hassle regarding champion unlocks.”
He went on to explain, “So, this is what we’re offering: an offline mode with all champions unlocked. And no, I hope this isn’t too much of a spoiler (chuckles). The tournament organizers will be able to focus on the event rather than grinding to unlock characters. Unfortunately, we can’t enable every single piece of content, like skins, offline, but this should suffice for competitive play.”
Cannon emphasized that they intend to keep supporting grassroots events and are open to feedback on what features might be beneficial.
For those organizing fighting game events, this news is a significant boost. An always-online game would undoubtedly pose challenges, requiring reliable internet at venues and incurring extra costs. Not having to unlock new characters across multiple accounts will save organizers a lot of time and effort.
However, there’s a bit of uncertainty in how this new mode will mesh with Vanguard Anti-Cheat, Riot’s ever-present security software. Vanguard, with its kernel-level access, springs to action as soon as you start your computer when playing Riot titles like League of Legends and Valorant. This could potentially cause hiccups with an offline mode, considering it’s accessed through the same launcher used for current 2XKO Alpha Lab tests.
We’ve reached out to Riot Games for clarity on this matter, although we’re still waiting for a response at the time of writing.
Despite the questions, this feature is great news for the dedicated 2XKO community, ready to compete in live tournaments. Personally, I’d say such an offline mode might not be something every average player can access. Given that 2XKO is free-to-play, the game needs revenue streams, so expect this feature to be limited to certified tournament organizers.
We’ll need to keep an eye out for more news on this offline mode and any additional features. What’s your take on this development? Share your thoughts below!
