Glover, the charming puzzle platformer from Interactive Studios, Piko Interactive, and QUByte Interactive, has made its way onto the Nintendo Switch! Dive into our review to see what this nostalgic game brings to the table.
Originally the brainchild of Interactive Studios—formerly Dizzy Entertainment and later known as Blitz Games—Glover has an intriguing history. The studio was founded back in 1990 by the Oliver Twins, renowned for their iconic Dizzy series. In this engaging 3D platformer, you’ll step into the role of Glover, skillfully maneuvering a ball from point A to point B across whimsical levels.
Glover first debuted on the gaming scene in 1998, launching alongside Hasbro Interactive for the Nintendo 64 and later appearing under the Atari Interactive banner on the PlayStation. Fast forward to 2025, and we now have the opportunity to enjoy this classic on the Nintendo Switch, thanks to QUByte Interactive’s QUByte Classics series. So, let’s journey back to the enchanting Crystal Kingdom!
Your mission is to recover the Kingdom’s lost crystals after a wizard’s potion mishap causes an explosion, flinging the crystals—and Glover—through the air. With a touch of magic, Glover transforms the crystals into bounce-friendly rubber balls. As one of the wizard’s magical gloves, Glover’s adventures bring him face-to-face with Cross-Stitch, the game’s antagonist, who emerged when Glover’s fellow glove Glovel turned evil after an unfortunate encounter with a cauldron.
The game unfolds over six vibrant worlds: Atlantis, Carnival, Pirates, Prehistoric, Fortress of Fear, and Out of This World. For those aiming for 100% completion, you’ll need to master all levels, track down every Garib collectible, and tackle bonus stages in each world.
Jumping into the game, you’ll use the left analog stick to guide Glover and the right stick to fine-tune your view. Zooming is handled with the X button, while jumps, including double jumps, are executed with the A button. The B button lets you dribble your ball, and for some earthy power, a ground pound can be performed with the ZR button. Balance atop your ball using the L button and launch it by pressing and holding the B button. The A button also comes in handy for slapping the ball to clear bigger gaps. You can modify the ball’s form with the R button, primarily using the rubber variant but keep playing to discover more!
As our nostalgic journey continues, it’s clear that Glover remains an engaging throwback to simpler times. After completing the game, the Extras section lets you explore the Gallery, filled with artwork depicting Glover’s bosses, characters, and more. Available on the Nintendo Switch for $19.99, Glover offers both a nostalgic and challenging trip down memory lane.
And there you have it! While Glover may feel old-school in its approach, it’s a delightful slice of gaming history. Enjoy rediscovering the magic!
