There’s another device hitting the scene that takes inspiration from Vision Pro, and this one even shares the “Vision” name in its title.
While Vivo might not be a household name worldwide, it has carved a niche for itself with practical, mid-range smartphones. This consistency has landed them in the top five smartphone creators globally, based on market share.
In an exciting move at the Boao Forum for Asia held in China’s Hainan Province, Vivo unveiled its entry into the world of extended reality with the Vivo Vision.
According to a press release, Vivo’s foray into XR technology is part of a larger strategy to expand into robotics and XR devices, labeling Vivo Vision as a pivotal step in their exploration of mixed reality technology.
Currently, details about the Vivo Vision are sparse. While Vivo plans to officially launch it by mid-2025, there’s a lot we don’t know yet. Questions remain about the specs, operating system, launch timeframe, international availability, or price—almost everything aside from its exterior design.
What caught people’s attention is the display model showcased at their booth during the Boao Forum. It seems Vivo has taken inspiration from Apple Vision Pro’s design, especially in adopting features like the distinctive headstrap, the digital crown button, and an external battery that attaches magnetically.
Vivo’s smartphones typically run on an adapted version of Android. For its global market, they use Funtouch OS, while Origin OS is employed for devices sold in China. Considering this is Vivo’s introduction into XR, it wouldn’t be surprising if they explore Google’s upcoming Android XR OS. This operating system is set to debut with Samsung’s ‘Project Moohan,’ a mixed reality headset anticipated to launch this year, though that’s currently based on conjecture.
Chinese companies are increasingly introducing Vision Pro look-alikes, with the first standout being from Play for Dream. Their MR headset impressed attendees at CES 2025 and even caught the eye of former Quest engineer Amanda Watson, who dubbed it “the best all-around HMD demo I saw on the floor today.”
