It’s been almost four years since the release of Resident Evil Village for both the PS5 and PS4. Though Capcom has kept fans entertained with additions like Resident Evil Re:Verse and the Resident Evil 4 remake, they’ve yet to unveil the franchise’s next main installment.
However, whispers in the gaming community, credited to a well-known informant, suggest that we’ll finally catch a glimpse of Resident Evil 9 before the year’s end.
### Resident Evil 9: A Bold New Chapter Awaiting Unveiling
Dusk Golem, a leaker reputed for their insights into horror games, has hinted that Resident Evil 9 is “almost definitely” on track to be revealed this year. The holdup, according to their claims, lies in the sheer magnitude of the project. It appears the game is poised to be a transformative entry in the series, much like how the releases of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 7 redefined the franchise.
In a recent tweet, Dusk Golem elaborated, “The reason behind the delay is that it’s akin to a major overhaul for the series, on par with RE4 and RE7. It won’t mimic the gameplay of RE7/RE8 or the recent remakes. It’s venturing into new territory with ambitious changes. Expect its reveal this year, so hang in there.”
As it stands, concrete details on Resident Evil 9 remain elusive, with rumors filling most of the gaps. One persistent rumor hints at the possibility of the game adopting an open-world format, which would mark a significant shift in the series.
What we can state for certain is that Koshi Nakanishi, known for his work on Resident Evil 7, is at the helm of this new project. This was confirmed during last year’s Capcom Next event.
At the showcase, Nakanishi shared, “We’re working on a new Resident Evil. Finding the right direction post-Resident Evil 7 was quite the challenge, but I’ve discovered a path forward, and honestly, it feels substantial. Details are still under wraps, but I hope you’re looking forward to what we have in store.”
