NVIDIA’s recent driver update, intended to tackle the notorious black screen issue plaguing the RTX 50 graphics cards, seems to have missed the mark for numerous users. Alarmingly, for some, the situation has even deteriorated.
It appears Team Green isn’t faring well with its rollout of the RTX 50 Blackwell GPUs, as complications are mounting. Among these, frequent game crashes and black screens have stood out, prompting NVIDIA to deploy their latest Game Ready 572.60 driver. This update aimed to correct problems related to DisplayPort connections and BIOS, but if you ask @mpr_reviews, it seems to have backfired. Games that utilize Multi-Frame Generation (MFG) are now crashing more than ever.
Taking to Twitter, one user reported, “Utilizing the latest Nvidia driver 572.60 causes every game that supports multi-frame generation to black screen crash and restart my PC on the RTX 5080 when MFG 3x or 4x is utilized. This happens either at the game’s start or when exiting.” The subsequent 572.65 hotfix doesn’t seem to offer any relief either.
The persistent crashing isn’t solely confined to MFG titles, although they’re disproportionately affected, suggesting the update failed to deliver for many enthusiasts. While widespread reports aren’t yet overwhelming in number since the update’s recent release, early feedback clearly raises alarms. The root issue might involve how MFG functions on RTX 50 Blackwell GPUs, though this hypothesis is still under investigation.
In another tweet, @Timebringer shared a frustrating experience: “Today, while playing Death Stranding on my 5080 with DLSS and frame gen turned off, the game crashed. No prior driver had caused this, and though I suspected overheating, both CPU and GPU stayed under 65 degrees. I’ll be rolling back the driver.”
For those still grappling with these problematic crashes post-update, we encourage reaching out. Letting Team Green know what’s happening is crucial for a fix. Many users, including @mpr_reviews, advocate for reverting to the previous driver version in light of its relative stability. As this situation evolves, we’ll monitor for further incidents before pinpointing the exact cause.
With AMD’s RX 9070 series just around the corner, NVIDIA’s rocky RTX 50 launch could give Team Red a significant advantage in the competitive GPU market unless these issues are swiftly addressed.
