Ending a long streak of never having to spend actual money on Nintendo Switch Online, a notable chapter for many is closing.
A popular feature of the Switch is wrapping up just after the re-release of Xenoblade Chronicles X, with another not making the leap to the upcoming Switch 2.
In an announcement made tonight, Nintendo shared that the My Nintendo Gold program will be discontinued starting March 25, just after midnight ET. This program had been a fan-favorite, offering 1% back in eShop credit on first-party physical releases during their first year, and a generous 5% back on all eShop purchases. However, there is a silver lining for some: physical games released between March 25, 2024, and the program’s cutoff will still benefit until their first-year window closes. This includes releases from Endless Ocean: Luminous to Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition. Unfortunately, upcoming titles like Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond won’t make the cut.
Further updates came with news about the Switch Online Vouchers. The support page now notes that these won’t be compatible with games for the anticipated Switch 2. Previously, Nintendo Switch Online subscribers could grab a duo of vouchers for $99 US or its equivalent, trading them in for first-party game releases. Thankfully, this option isn’t disappearing overnight—it’s sticking around for new releases on the existing Switch, covering titles like Legends Z-A and Prime 4.
