Xbox’s top-rated game, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, could soon make its way to the PlayStation 5, if recent buzz has any truth to it. This potential release would mark another instance of Xbox exclusives expanding to Sony’s console, similar to how Forza Horizon 5 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle found their way there.
Originally developed by Ninja Theory, a studio under the Xbox umbrella, Hellblade 2 launched on May 21, 2024, for PC and Xbox Series X/S, continuing the story from 2017’s Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. The game has garnered widespread acclaim, earning its place with multiple awards at The Game Awards 2024. With this success under its belt, it seems Hellblade 2 might join other Xbox-exclusive titles in broadening its reach to PlayStation; Forza Horizon 5, Age of Empires 2, and Age of Mythology: Retold have recently confirmed transitions to cross-platform availability as well.
Windows Central’s Jez Corden suggested on Twitter that Hellblade 2’s debut on the PS5 isn’t a question of “if” but “when,” hinting that an announcement might come sooner rather than later. He even speculated that the reveal could happen during the upcoming State of Play livestream scheduled for February 12, 2025. Corden also expressed confidence that another Xbox-exclusive, South of Midnight, slated for April 2025, will eventually find its way to PlayStation too.
Hellblade 2 might soon join a growing list of Xbox titles making a move to PlayStation. With Xbox adopting a more open approach to sharing exclusive titles across platforms, it’s not surprising to see titles like Pentiment and the soon-to-be-released Doom: The Dark Ages shifting towards multi-platform launches. The emergence of popular games such as Hellblade 2 on Sony’s console appears less of an uncertainty and more of a strategic direction.
Beyond Hellblade 2, other Xbox franchises have been rumored for PlayStation. Age of Mythology: Retold was recently confirmed, while updates on potential PlayStation releases of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, and Flight Simulator are still awaited.
