World of Warcraft recently announced that its Plunderstorm battle royale mode will come to an end on February 25 as Patch 11.1 rolls out. That leaves players with just a two-week window to grab any remaining pirate-themed rewards, such as mounts and armor, their hearts desire. Of course, when Patch 11.1 lands, it marks the beginning of a fresh chapter in The War Within expansion story.
For those who’ve enjoyed their time in Plunderstorm during its stint with Dragonflight Patch 10.2.6, it made its return in January 2025 after nearly a year away. This battle royal, which unfolds in the Arathi Basin, pits 60 players against each other in a quest to gather Plunder and vanquish foes for the win. In this second season, Blizzard made some exciting additions and tweaks, taking fan feedback into account. They introduced the Plunderstore, a sleek way to exchange Plunder for cosmetic loot and made it possible for players to dive into Plunderstorm while exploring The War Within.
Though it’s been around for a bit over a month, Plunderstorm is set to make its exit soon. Blizzard confirmed its departure scheduled for February 25. This timing coincides with the launch of the Undermined content update, transporting players to The Undermine, a subterranean goblin city. Here, gamers will face the challenge of overthrowing Jastor Gallywix, the former leader of the Bilgewater Cartel and a key ally of The War Within’s villain, Xal’atath. This confrontation forms the heart of The Liberation of Undermine raid. Following closely, The War Within’s Season 2 kicks off on March 4, bringing along a fresh roster of Mythic+ Dungeons, the Undermine raid, and numerous class balance updates.
With just two weeks left on the clock, World of Warcraft players need to hustle if they want to score those elusive cosmetic goodies and achievements—think mounts, battle pets, and transmogrification sets. Earn a hefty 5,000 Plunder, and you might get an in-game mail delivery of a Storm-Singed Plunder Chest, promising tokens tradeable for unique loot chests. However, it remains unclear whether these chests will stick around post-Patch 11.1, so use them while you can! While Plunderstorm will soon vanish, fans are hopeful it will return with new maps in the future. Only time will tell when this chaotic, pirate-infused extravaganza might once again blast ashore in Azeroth.
