Snap, the innovative minds behind Snapchat, are making a strategic move to make their newest Spectacles AR Glasses more accessible to students and educators by introducing an educational discount that slashes the initial $1,200 price tag to half.

Launched in September 2024, these fifth-generation Spectacles, known as Spectacles ’24, were primarily aimed at developers, coming in at a monthly rate of $100 for those committed for a year.

Snap’s latest generation of AR glasses showcases significant upgrades compared to the fourth-gen model from 2021. These enhancements include a broader field of view, improved resolution, the integration of hand-tracking technology, and a complete overhaul of the software stack. Despite these improvements, the hefty price point has been a barrier for students and teachers eager to delve into the world of AR app development and education.

In a bid to make their cutting-edge technology more accessible, Snap has unveiled a student discount that dramatically reduces the overall cost. The new pricing is set at $49.50 a month with a commitment of at least 12 months, and the same rate continues if you decide to keep using the headset. Alternatively, you can make a one-time payment of $594 for the first year, with subsequent months still costing $49.50 each if you choose to keep the headset.

To benefit from this offer, you need a .edu email address or another email connected to an accredited educational institution. This discount isn’t just limited to the US; students and teachers in countries like France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Austria, and the Netherlands can also take advantage of it.
