There are some truly colossal quest mods for Skyrim, and one that already featured a sweeping, epidemic-style plague has recently expanded even more, thanks to a comprehensive overhaul. This mod, named Death Consumes All, draws its inspiration from The Witcher 3’s excellent Hearts of Stone DLC.
You might remember the original Death Consumes All, which launched in 2020 and has since garnered over 100,000 downloads on Nexus Mods. Gamers flocked to experience its 10-hour, branching questline fully voiced by its creator Anbeegod, with many eager to dive into its rich narrative.
Since then, the modder has been hard at work crafting a revamped version. This latest iteration significantly extends the storyline, stretching it to around 30 hours. This updated release is aptly titled ‘Death Consumes All – DLC Quest Mod (Revamped).’
The core plot remains unchanged; a vicious plague is rippling through Skyrim using mechanics that simulate the spread of real-world diseases, threatening to “consume all” and transform everyone into the undead. Alongside a new follower, Livia Salvian, players must “battle formidable foes, uncover the chilling truth, and determine the fate of the realm.”
However, this fresh take brings a lot of new elements. Anbeegod has “completely revamped most of the original quests for better flow, storytelling, and writing.” There are also “new quests with profound narratives and varied choices,” including an introductory quest, pushing the total number of quests from “over 13” to “over 17.” The mod’s voice acting has been upgraded too, with 1,000 additional lines of dialogue included.
What’s more, you now have the option to “toggle off the plague,” preventing it from decimating the in-game populace—a feature that medieval folk might have appreciated back in the day. Other enhancements aim to improve battle design and balance, while also reducing bugs and potential conflicts with other mods.
If you’re up for 30 hours of battling the undead in a gritty, foreboding setting, while contemplating your Dragonborn’s misfortunes in facing one apocalypse after another, this mod certainly looks intriguing. Plus, Anbeegod has pledged to donate “50% of this mod’s donation points to Doctors Without Borders to fight real-world epidemics,” which is a commendable gesture.
