Ubisoft has once more postponed the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, now aiming for a launch on March 20, 2025, to further "refine and polish" the game. Alongside this announcement, the company hinted at exploring options to possibly sell.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Delayed as Ubisoft Considers New Strategies to Boost Asset Value
As reported by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, Marc-Alexis Coté, Ubisoft’s Vice President Executive Producer for the Assassin’s Creed series, issued a statement regarding the game’s delay.
“The feedback from our community has been invaluable each week,” Coté stated. “Though we’ve made significant progress, we feel a few extra weeks will allow us to incorporate that feedback fully, ensuring a more ambitious and engaging experience right from day one.”
The updated release date is now March 20, 2025. “We are devoted to delivering a top-notch, immersive experience, fueled by the continuous dialogue between our players and the development team,” the statement continued.
In a separate press release labeled as a “Strategic update,” Ubisoft revealed it’s making notable operational changes to preserve its value. This involves “significant cost reductions and a highly selective approach to investments.” The cancellation of XDefiant and some recent studio closures reflect this strategy.
The delay of Assassin’s Creed Shadows is part of a renewed emphasis on quality, extending its development by an extra month to incorporate player feedback.
Furthermore, the company is mulling over a potential sale.
“Today, Ubisoft has appointed leading advisors to review and pursue various transformational strategic and financial options to unlock optimal value for stakeholders,” the press release noted.
Ubisoft co-founder Yves Guillemot added, “We have taken decisive steps to transform our Group, aiming to deliver best-in-class player experiences, improve operational efficiency, and maximize value creation. Moreover, we’ve appointed leading advisors and are actively examining various strategic and capital opportunities to fully realize the potential value of our assets. We are confident there are multiple paths to leverage Ubisoft’s assets and franchises for value generation.”
