Stress Level Zero has made waves with BONELAB (2022), a physics-driven sandbox game that has become a smashing hit on the Quest platform. Yet, fans of the studio’s earlier work have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of their award-winning title, BONEWORKS (2019), on Meta’s latest standalone devices. Well, the wait is nearly over.
For those unfamiliar with BONEWORKS, it is an immersive VR action-adventure game that thrives on advanced physics mechanics. It delivers an adrenaline-pumping experience where players navigate complex environments, engage in physics-rich combat, and solve puzzles in incredibly inventive ways.
Recently, Brandon Laatsch, co-founder of the studio, shared some exciting insights on his X account about what’s in store for 2025. According to Laatsch, they’re not only focused on releasing updates for their Marrow Engine physics framework, which was crafted specifically for Unity, but they’re also gearing up to launch BONEWORKS on Quest 3 and Quest 3S.
Curious about what BONEWORKS might look like on Quest 3? You can get a sneak peek below.
One noteworthy point from Laatsch’s announcement is that the production of Marrow’s 2.0 version and BONEWORKS for Quest 3 are being developed simultaneously, alongside the initial phases of a new game. The aim is seamless integration through their cross-linked Marrow technology, although Laatsch acknowledges that while BONEWORKS is closely related, it presents its own unique challenges.
For those currently on Quest 2 and itching to experience BONEWORKS, there’s already a community-driven mod called ‘Labworks’ available. This mod allows players to dive into the action thanks to the dedication and efforts of indie modder ‘volx64,’ who spent two years crafting this port.
Interestingly, Laatsch confirmed that the studio doesn’t plan to remove Labworks, emphasizing that the new Marrow Engine will offer much more than just a simple port of BONEWORKS. While there’s still no official release date, we’re attentively following updates from Laatsch’s X account and the studio’s YouTube channel, eager to catch news as soon as it drops.
