At CES 2025, NVIDIA made waves by revealing that its GeForce NOW cloud gaming platform will soon be compatible with Apple Vision Pro, Meta Quest 3 and 3S, and Pico headsets.
However, this exciting announcement doesn’t include VR cloud gaming just yet—meaning you won’t be playing those VR-specific games. Instead, the update focuses on delivering standard games that can also be enjoyed on Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, and other handheld devices.
Thanks to a new update, version 2.0.70, set for release later in January, users on Vision Pro, Quest 3/S, and Pico devices will have the ability to play these games via GeForce NOW, all through their browsers.
Once this update hits, NVIDIA promises to deliver the full array of its tech treasures, like ray tracing and NVIDIA DLSS. For those on VR headsets, get ready for gamepad-compatible experiences projected onto what they describe as a “massive virtual screen.”
One attractive aspect of NVIDIA’s cloud gaming service is its accessibility—gamers can enjoy limited free access, or opt for more premium experiences with daily passes or monthly subscriptions. Plus, there’s a vast selection of over 2,000 titles in their collection.
Although NVIDIA’s move is groundbreaking for standalone VR devices, it isn’t completely uncharted territory. Back in 2022, Pluto VR tried something similar with their cloud gaming service for Quest, known as PlutoSphere. Unfortunately, they had to pull the app in early 2024 due to Meta’s crackdown on unauthorized cloud streaming services.
In the same vein, Microsoft managed to break through, getting approval in late 2023 to bring Xbox Cloud Gaming and the Game Pass library to the Quest platform.
