Marvel Rivals fans have recently taken to social media, expressing their frustration over NetEase Games’ decision to reset Chrono Tokens each season. Within Marvel Rivals, there are three types of currencies: Lattice, Chrono Tokens, and Units. Lattice and Units are used for buying cosmetics, while Chrono Tokens exclusively help in progressing through the battle pass.
Despite the game’s overall success, some players have found issues with the implementation of Chrono Tokens as the sole means of advancing the battle pass since its launch. Players earn these tokens by completing challenges daily, seasonally, and through special events. Although the game offers a consistent supply of tokens, many players are unhappy because they feel there should be some form of progression just from playing, similar to Fortnite’s XP system. Now, players face an additional setback with the realization that Chrono Tokens won’t carry over between seasons.
A Reddit user, Crimson_V, voiced their disappointment on the platform after NetEase clarified that extra Chrono Tokens from Season 0 won’t move to Season 1. NetEase explained on Marvel Rivals’ Twitter that while purchased Chrono Tokens will carry over, those earned from challenges will reset with each new season. The community is torn on this; some feel players should be rewarded for continuously completing challenges, while others think it’s fair to reset the tokens to motivate players to engage with each new season. This divide isn’t new, as the community has previously been split over the inclusion of a surrender option.
Some players believe NetEase made a misstep by opting for Chrono Tokens instead of traditional XP for battle pass advancement. One Redditor mentioned that while players generally don’t expect XP to carry over, Chrono Tokens, being a currency, create the expectation of persistence. Alongside tackling this issue, NetEase has been addressing a rise in cheating within Marvel Rivals, and while not all players are satisfied, many appreciate the developer’s responsiveness.
With Season 1 on the horizon, some gamers are digging into the game’s files for sneak peeks at future content. A well-known leaker recently unveiled Human Torch’s abilities, suggesting the hero will be a ranged duelist. With such updates on the way, it seems that a lot of fans are optimistic about what’s next for Marvel Rivals.
