Two thousand five hundred games. Seriously, can someone cut down the endless game spam?
We missed a couple of things last week. In North America, a week brought us +19 releases, including a surprise reappearance of the 3DS classic Ironfall Invasion. Look out for a review from John soon, with fingers crossed there’s no epic security breach drama this time. Also, among the Archives previews, we got the gem Fantastic Night Dreams Cotton.
That +19 means we wrapped the week up at 65 in North America, and we’ve already overtaken last year’s total, boasting over 2,500 titles released. Today marks the beginning of what I call the Hell Months at work. It’s a stretch that’s so relentless, the only holiday I’ve managed was spent 11 days in a hospital bed over the past seven years. So yeah, feeling a bit testy.
The headline act this week is another escapee from its previous exclusivity. Hironobu Sakaguchi, well-known in the Final Fantasy circles, might finally see his latest venture, Fantasian Neo Dimension, land on consoles. Alongside this, Fitness Boxing 3 releases, courtesy of Nintendo publishing it outside Japan. Then there’s Roller Coaster Tycoon, redesigned control-wise for consoles, and Diesel Legacy: The Brazen Age makes its appearance, having teased gamers at several expos. Oh, and AntonBlast launches too, but pricing details are still under wraps.
On the smaller scene, we’ve got Riglas for the EggConsole, an RPG adventure reminiscent of an old-school Ys III, relatively friendly to non-Japanese speakers. And something new that catches the eye, a licensed console game based on the MasterChef franchise. Let’s just hope it doesn’t end up like a botched version of "exotic tartare."
