When it comes to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, fans hoping for downloadable content (DLC) might be a bit disappointed. Unlike its predecessor, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Rebirth isn’t getting any DLC. But rest assured, there’s a solid rationale behind this decision.
In a recent chat with the Daily Star, director Naoki Hamaguchi addressed why there won’t be any DLC for Rebirth. He acknowledged the fans eagerly anticipating add-ons, especially since Remake did receive some while awaiting its sequel. During the interview, Hamaguchi said, “We definitely do hear the desire from fans, the voices out there that want that kind of thing. I understand it completely, but I think, from my perspective, what the fans really want to see the most is not necessarily DLC. They want to see the third part of the series as quickly as possible.”
He explained further, “So that’s why we’ve decided not to focus the development resources on creating additional extra episodes for DLC at the moment. We really are putting all our efforts into getting the third game out as quickly as we can. So for the moment, that’s where we’re focusing our time.” It’s a reasonable choice, and one that should resonate with those eager for the next installment.
In the world of Final Fantasy, the Yuffie DLC served as a nice bridge between games. Although Cid and Vincent Valentine might seem like viable candidates for their own Rebirth stories, it’s uncertain what direction could be taken. Plus, there’s always the chance that Square Enix might revisit Vincent’s story with a Dirge of Cerberus remaster, similar to Crisis Core: Reunion. Fingers crossed for the fans of Dirge!
Recently, our colleague Dom caught up with Hamaguchi to discuss his plans for the third and final installment. Don’t worry, mini-games are on his mind, and he’s planning some exciting changes. Keep an eye out for what’s in store!
