A recent update for Windows 11 has unexpectedly thrown a wrench into the gaming sessions of Ubisoft fans, particularly affecting titles like Star Wars Outlaws.
We’ve all been there—our trusty computers decide to act up at the most inconvenient times, seemingly out of nowhere, thanks to a tiny update. Although in the grand scheme of things, gaming isn’t the most critical task, this recent Windows 11 update has been a true headache for fans of Ubisoft games. Gamers have noticed since last week’s update that a number of Ubisoft titles, quite frustratingly, have become unplayable. Microsoft has since admitted that the update is causing these hiccups, so it’s not just your system on the fritz.
Microsoft clarified, “After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you might encounter issues with some Ubisoft games. These games might become unresponsive while starting, loading, or during active gameplay. In some cases, users might receive a black screen.” The affected games include some heavy hitters: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
To manage the impact, Microsoft has put a compatibility block on systems with these games, meaning they won’t be prompted to install the problematic Windows 11 version 24H2 through the Windows Update channel. Microsoft advises against trying to manually force the update using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or media creation tool until they’ve ironed out the kinks.
For their part, Ubisoft has rolled out a temporary fix for the problem but did caution that you might notice some performance issues as they work towards a more permanent solution. They promise to keep gamers updated with any new developments. Meanwhile, this might be a good opportunity to tackle some of those other games sitting in your backlog.
